The ancient art of slate carving comes to life in Merlin’s hands. All of the work on this shield is done with hand held tools of Merlin’s own design. No power tools are used in producing these shields. This is a commissioned work in progress. Each shield is priced after a drawing is submitted. Base price for a shield this size 18x24” runs $600.00. As these are hand cut to order they may take several months from drawing to finished piece.

This dragon from the book of Kells is carved into a piece of chalcedony approximately palm sized. The piece was done with hand tools and took approximately 500 hours. $2000.00
